About Smock Alley
Smock Alley Theatre lies on the banks of the River Liffey in a quiet part of Temple Bar. This beautiful venue has a fascinating history dating back to 1662 to the Theatre Royal. The Theatre has been carefully and lovingly restored to become Dublin’s Oldest Newest Theatre. The site comprises of a 178 seat auditorium, 75 seat Boy’s School space and a 200 seat Banquet Hall. The Theatre presents a varied artistic programme of theatre, music, dance, comedy & visual arts including its festival of new work, Scene and Heard.
Smock Alley Theatre Company Limited was established in 2006 as a registered charity and a company limited by guarantee (Charity No. CHY 17241). The conduct of our organisation is governed by our Memorandum and Articles of Association. All profits from sales of tickets and venue rentals are re-invested into the delivery and promotion of the arts. Smock Alley also receives funding through a variety of grants and government bodies, including the Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht and The Arts Council of Ireland. Smock Alley is governed by a voluntary board and run by a team of full time and part time staff. Smock alley has signed up to the Charity Governance Code.

Smock Alley is seeking strategic, experienced, engaged and talented members of our community who who can advise and guide the theatre to the next stage of its development.
Applicants with the following experience and skills are particularly welcomed to enhance, supplement or replace existing skills:
- Company and Legal expertise
- Commercial Expertise
- Fundraising / Business Development
- An Active Interest in the Arts
Commitment of Directors
As a minimum, board member’s should expect to devote time to attending regular board meetings, to participating in various subgroups that may be established from time to time, to attending a number of performances at the theatre each year, to contribute to the theatre fundraising efforts and adhere to our board responsibilities and policies.
